The Newport Beach Ocean Lifeguard Association is proud to present the 2025 NBOLA Summer Scholarships, offering nearly $10,000 in awards thanks to the generous support of our community sponsors. These scholarships recognize outstanding Ocean Lifeguards who demonstrate leadership, dedication, and a passion for public safety. From EMT school support to academic and service-based awards, the NBOLA is committed to investing in the future of those who protect our beaches.

 

The NBOLA Summer Scholarship is a $2,500 scholarship award intended for recipients looking to partake in personal career development. This may include a variety of professional development activities or advancements, and is not limited to undergraduate or graduate academic programs. *NBOLA PRO MEMBERS ONLY

 

 

The Newport Beach Fire Department Foundation Lifeguard EMT School Scholarship is a $2000 scholarship award offered to two active Newport Beach Lifeguards ($4,000 total) with goals of completing their Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification within the next 12 months.


 

 

 

 

The Brent Ranek Pay It Forward Scholarship awards $2,000 to a Newport Beach Ocean Lifeguard Association (NBOLA) member who has shown resilience in the face of adversity and a strong commitment to personal and community growth. Founded by retired Newport Beach Lifeguard Captain Brent Ranek, the scholarship recognizes individuals who are working to better themselves and give back to others. Applicants must outline their short and long-term goals, how the scholarship will help them achieve those goals, and the challenges they've overcome along the way. *NBOLA PRO MEMBERS ONLY


 

 

The Brian Gray Memorial Lifeguard Scholarship, presented by the De La Jara Family Foundation, honors the legacy of Brian Gray, a dedicated Newport Beach lifeguard and mentor, by awarding a $1,000 scholarship to a current or former ocean lifeguard or Junior Lifeguard Instructor. The scholarship supports individuals pursuing higher education who exemplify leadership, community service, and a commitment to public safety. Applicants must submit a personal statement, resume, and a letter of recommendation reflecting how lifeguarding has shaped their lives and how they plan to positively influence others.
